The Maberry story is, by far, the best. The rest of the stories are good, don't get me wrong, but the Maberry story is the worth the cost of the book.Tags : G.I. I thoroughly enjoyed every single one of these stories. All of them were fantastic. Not a single one was, "ok, next". (The X-Files version was also super amazing! which led me to try this one out. So glad I did.)
Mixed feelings on this. Here's why
The stories themselves were all pretty decent. A few cliche' parts here and there, but overall, not too bad. Also, since it's a few short stories rather than one long one, everything has a pretty good pace. Things happen, not many dry spots. On the flip side, I didn't really get much of a Joe/Cobra vibe. The names are there, a few "Yo Joes" are sprinkled throughout, but something just seems missing. I'm not a big fan of talking down about writing since this is far above anything I could ever do, but after finishing I just thought "If some names got changed, you'd never know it's a Joe book." That said, I imagine that it's difficult to establish major things like that since short stories are often more focused on a few characters/events.
I'll probably never re-read it, but at the same time I'm somehow glad I've got it on my bookshelf.
Maybe it's because I'm loyal to Cobra...
If you love GI Joe pick up this book. All the stores are pretty enjoyable and there some good gems in it. Oddly the least favorable story was from Chuck Dixon. And the last story from the editor of the anthology was really good.
Fantastic and a surprisingly good read. I came to this book without any real knowledge of GI Joe or any of the characters. None the less, the book grabs you right from the start and really doesn't slow down! Highly recommended.
It was delivered much sooner than I expected, it's in excellent condition. It's a nice collection of stories, and even has a few black and white comic-like pictures in it. Five stars!
These are not your old school GI Joes! I never created missions like these for my dollies, but these Joe's are hardcore. This is a darker side of your childhood, with COBRA taking a less comical and more sinister role in our world, and the Joe's fighting were they can. The characters become more military, and again. less comical, and butts get kicked. People die. Reasons are serious. I really enjoyed this collection of stories, and recommend it to all of my friends who were Joe fans. Prepare to step into the present.
These are not your average G I Joe stories. They are hard core and gritty and not everybody makes it back from the mission. I highly recommended this collection you will not look at the Joe's the same way again......
The Maberry story is, by far, the best. The rest of the stories are good, don't get me wrong, but the Maberry story is the worth the cost of the book.
