Best book I have read in 6 months! My favorite part is the fabulous characterization that brought on some hilarious scenes and conversations. I felt like I knew the characters from the first chapter and the author stayed consistent throughout the book but that did not mean that I could predict what they would say or do. She kept me hopping and hoping as well for the next great scene. As soon as I read the kindle, I immediately bought the paperback to send to my sister and I bought one for myself.Second thing I loved was the hilarious clean flirtations! This was definitely clean and something my teenager could read. I was laughing out loud several times and rooting for more to happen than did! By then end when all the misunderstandings occurred I was so caught up in the book that I was ready to throttle the author. I wanted that happily ever after so much! It truly was the best book I've read in 6 months and I read a couple of books a week some weeks (sometimes 5-6!)
There were times it stepped away from regency, like calling her intended her fiancé (which is a term not used until almost 60 years later) and neither character stayed with the custom. The very idea of the books plot meant she would be compromised and would have to marry him but the writing was so good and characterization was so consistent that I felt like she got away with a lot.
Fantastic read! I will probably reread it in a few days even though I just finished it last week. Love when a book is that entertaining that it prompts me to do that.

An Arrangement of Sorts Arrangements Book 1 Rebecca Connolly 9781943048014 Books Reviews
I wish I knew more about how to write a true review so I could fly by on more than the seat of by pants. Anyway, my primary issue with this book was that it was comprised of at least 75% dialog--conversation between the main characters and others. There was some inner dialog as well. This seemed an odd device to me. In the beginning of the book, I was just dropped down into a group conversation that seemed to go on and on without any explanation. Then the two main characters took a week-long horse ride where they just talked and talked most often--for at least half the trip--about what seemed to me like trivia or minutia. I can't say it didn't ultimately work to have primarily dialog (maybe it did, maybe it didn't) but it did take most of the book to get me involved with the characters and their story. The transition of my thoughts (a) I wanted to stop reading--struggling with what was my initial response for about 1/4th of the book, (b) to grudgingly reading just to find out what happened but not being very into the story or the characters--my second response that lasted until well past half way, (c) to reading because I cared to know what happened to the characters (the last 1/4th of the book). It was a two-star book to me until I finished reading and felt it had somehow risen to three stars there at the end. In other words, the end did a Herculean lift to what was solidly a two-star book most of the way through. (I give an automatic 2 stars minimum for finishing any book.)
There were also some other issues. I felt this book was not thoroughgoingly Regency--really, it could just as well have been set in another time and maybe should have been since it fell short of the Regency mark. Next, I thought it odd to ride horses--clearly their destination was far away, though of course that allowed time for more conversation. Third, I thought it odd that as honorable as he was that Nathan hadn't insisted on someone from his staff accompanying them, horse back or not, last minute or not. Fourth, I thought it profoundly odd that no one packed even a change of clothes or shoes, particularly when the destination was clearly far away. At a minimum, they could have purchased a change of clothes rather than constantly borrowing. Fifth, it was odd to me that they seemed to pass no one on the road, as though they rode through England with no one else aboad in the land. So some things felt falsly Regency and some things felt not true to the characters and some things felt illogical.
In sum, I did not hate the book but I do not recommend it, either.
This book had a plot I had not seen used before, which is saying something for a Regency Romance! It is a cross of a buddy story/road trip.
A young lady who has recently inherited a fortune needs to travel from the south of England to the north in order to find her fiance who had moved there for a job in order to earn enough money for them to get married. He used to write frequently but she has not heard from him in the last 18 months. She is desperate to find him since she now has the money they needed. She has been asking around for recommendations of someone who could help her find a lost person. She was given the name of the H because in the war it had been his job to find "lost" soldiers or groups of soldiers who had disappeared (i.e. gone AWOL or turned themselves in to the French). So she wants him to help find her lost fiance.
The H and his friends had been working on tenant cottages on his recently inherited estate. He had become an earl but would not let any one call him Lord and he was more likely to wear work clothes than evening wear. The friends had finished for the day and were taking a break at the local pub when the h comes walking in asking if anyone knows the man she is looking for. They all realize the name is that of the Earl but they are speechless at her courage to speak to a bunch of workmen she didn't even know, and also at her beauty. The H eventually stands up and tells her his name. She explains she needs him to help find her fiance and he is rather shocked again. She gives up and leaves and his friends tell him he has to go with her. They are a bit of fun loving guys and think it will be an adventure the H shouldn't miss; so he runs after her and agrees to help her.
They are off on the journey the next morning and the fun begins. They are both type A personalities and clash at every stage but they also are very attracted to each other and there is great sexual tension between them. Both know they can never be together because she is making the trip so she can marry her fiance after they find him. The H hides the fact that he in an earl and she thinks he is just a workman below her station.
This is a great book. I loved the story, the main characters were great, the side characters were also great and since this is the first book in a series hopefully they will be in books to follow. The writing was good, editing was good, no foul language, and no overt sexual scenes to fill in as some authors do. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
Very well written. Lots of humor. Clean romance. Engaging story with very entertaining characters. Can't wait to read the author's next book!
