I was a little unsure about this book after I started it. The first few chapters were a bit slow, but offered enough to keep me wanting to continue reading to see where it would go.

I'm glad I stayed with it because it picks up and takes off and I found myself unable to put down my Kindle once that happened.

Emily, who is 18 and lives with her rich and loving father, is struggling through the loss of her mother two years prior. Other than attendending her father's charity functions and her one close friend, she doesn't go out much or socialize since her mother's passing.

Alexander, a Guardian from Eden, comes into her life at a moment when she needs someone the most. They soon find out they are destined for one another but there are complications for a Guardian and a human to have any form of relationship.

It's here that the story really takes off and becomes a true page turner.

One of the first things I noticed about this book, which is in the YA category, was the way in which Emily and her friends spoke. Defenitley not the way you hear teens speak today (not that this is a bad thing), but some of the phrases they use were from my parents era, so it was a bit misplaced in the modern day world. I have come to attribute it to the fact that Emily and those she associates with are all from well off families in NYC who are attending private schools, so this could be why the author wrote their dialogue the way she did.

When you get further into the story and are introduced to those who reside in Eden and the Guardian Realm, the story becomes intriguing when you learn the way in which the laws are written and controlled for each of the Guardians.

Emily and Alexander's romance will keep you rooting for them to be able to make this work and wanting to pick up the next book in this series to see where it takes them.

It's a cute story that's appropriate for a tween or YA. I've read many YA stories that kept my interest enough that I didn't want to put it down....but sorry to say, this wasn't one of them. It moved a little slow for me.

The conversations were a bit stilted. The plot and action had too many inconsistencies, which proved distracting. The characters were well developed but way too good to be believable.

There was a lot of groundwork established in this first book, so it was definitely a good effort by the author. And as I mentioned before, it was a cute premise. It does show promise of being a good series if it is tightened up and edited.
I have no words to describe this book, I don't think 'horrible' clearly conveys how bad this book is. I already had doubts from the description and I wish I could go back and tell myself to be smart and NOT waste 2.99 on this. So in reality I really only have myself to blame for the headache this book gave me, but it doesn't mean it makes me hate it any less.

There isn't much to describe, the first half of the book has no plot and is incredibly slow, there are too many poorly described yet overly described descriptions of things, and the 'characters' in the book are about as flat as cardboard. The dialogue is horrible. I have never once in my life heard anyone talk so formally or so blandly, let alone an 18 year old girl from New York.

I see some older people are suggesting this for people 15 and under and that's just insulting. Assuming younger people have such small minds that they would enjoy something that is blatantly poorly written and lacking a plot is a smack in the face. Just because they're young doesn't mean they're stupid. I'm seventeen and have read children's books (Percy Jackson, Harry Potter) and I've loved them. I don't think passing off something poorly written as something 'for younger people' is in any way valid.

Bottom line; don't read this, don't waste your money.
The story was well written for the most part but I found it rather tedious due to the writing itself. It is made for young teenagers (10-15?) not for adults.

There was entirely too much explaining, too simplistic word choices and dry. I am not saying that it was a bad story. Just that I prefer my stories a litte more adult and faster paced. I cannot express adequately regarding the sentence structure, choice of verbage and the ... well, I found it very boring and lacking ... something.

I gave it to an 11 year old and she seemed to like it well enough, but for me .. no.

Strongly recommended for middle school children.
After reading all the 5 star reviews for this book I was expecting a well written book with an excellent story line. The idea for this book is original. Basically this girl has a personal Guardian, kind of like an angel. He materializes for her and tells her that he loves her. This is the part where I got confused, why does he love her? What is it about Emily that makes her different in the millenia that Alexander has been a Guardian? So what ensues is that Alexander's love for Emily breaks all the rules of his kind and that there will be repercussions. The major conflict in the book is between the Guardians and an unknown faction called the Opposition. We never learn a whole lot about the Opposition so baiscally the whole book centers around Alexander's love for Emily.
Also what bothered me whas the materialism in the book. When they are facing a life or death situation Emily was worried that her clothes weren't cute enough for Alexander.
In short, as a reader, I want more conflict betweent the main characters. Real couples, real relationships, and real people have arguments, strife and conflict. It's too unbelievable and impossible to relate if the characters are perfect and always give eachother the lovey face.
I really liked the wisdom from the father in this book, I thought it was great insight and that's why I gave it 4 stars Originality and food for thought. Hopefully the next book will will give the characters depth and relatability because I think the series has promise, and for 99 cents it's a bargain.
