You Made This Drink You Drink It Lindsay Moss Books Reviews

From having my book signed and kissed by the Lindsay Moss herself, not to mention working with her at 'the' theme park at the stage while reading this book, has to have been one of the BEST things that has ever hit my life. Her book is a book that you CANNOT put down and want to reach the end, tears in your eyes and hope that everything will turn around for the main character. Being able to hug the author herself once I had read the book, was great and knowing what a HUGE impact the book had on my life and sharing it with my friends and family was a huge gift that I gave to Lindsay Moss. I tell everyone no matter what your age, race or gender you will fall in love with this book and feel the sorrow and joy that is written in the pages of this book. Simply you will fall in love with the book and the author herself.
I was shocked to find several misspellings (in laid for inlaid etc.). I thought the story was somehow... off kilter. Even the title didn't seem exactly on target. I thought there was an awful lot of self-indulgent whining. Adult survivors of alcoholic parents need to be a bit more incisive than this paean to wedding consumerism. (Yes, I know she had a bargain wedding on the beach, but still...) I wanted to like it, but finally I wanted to say, "Lexxie! Get over it!"
Okay, so I'll admit that I'm not your average chick-lit reader. In fact, I don't usually pick things up unless they've been nominated for some sort of a literary prize. But a friend told me about "You Made This Drink...You Drink It" and I decided to give it a try. It surprised me. I finished this book in 48 hours and it would have been sooner, if I didn't have to go to work! Lexxie Parker is not without her flaws, but when you read about her, you feel like she's in the room with you and her magnetic personality wins you over in no time flat. Her exciteable, stubborn, mouthy, effervescent personality makes for an endearing read from start to finish.

If you think you are a skeptic, give Lexxie Parker a chance (just like Brenty did), and she will have you hootin' and holdin' back the tears in no time...this girl worked my emotions and I enjoyed every minute of it!
I just loved this book!!!! Lindsay Moss expresses herself openly and honestly while telling the story of Lexxie Parker a young woman who is planning her wedding and trying to overcome life with an alcoholic mother who puts drinking above the needs of her children and a father who puts his wife ahead of everything and everyone else. Lindsay writes Lexxie's story from the heart, with tons of laughter and tons of tears. She shows that with a great sense of humor, inner strength and determination , along with love of her friends, a great brother, and the love of the man of her dreams that she can turn lemons into lemonade! This book is a refreshing pitcher of lemonade!!! I met Lindsay Moss at a woman's book club meeting and Lindsay was the guest author! She is one of the most impressive young woman I've met, beautiful inside and outside.. articulate and talented.. this new author can't miss... she has a hit book and I can't wait to see what's next!!! Keep them coming Lindsay!!!! We need to know what happens next in Lexxie's life!!!!
Praise be to the chick-lit! With "You Made This Drink, You Drink It," Through her tone, vocabulary and diction, Moss finds herself unique in that she exceptionally provides the reader with a voice genuine to her own. Lexxie Parker is that girl next door, the one you've always wanted to be friends with...let alone the one you've always wanted to be. Yet behind closed doors, she's cursed with a family that wrote the definition for the word crazy. What is unique is how well Moss is able to retain the humor throughout Lexxie's battles with her Lifetime movie-of-the-week mother. It just goes to show you that laughter is the best medicine, and that if we cannot laugh at ourselves, well there's just no point in laughing at all. Moss delivers this message in a heartwarming and touching portrayal of truth and love amidst the oh so strenuous ordeal of planning a wedding. And while although I traditionally prefer the happy ending of reconciliation, Moss proves that sometimes happy endings are more about the journey, and the journey thereafter that helps us overcome our demons...or the demons placed upon us by tragically flawed paternal units!
I'm not quite sure why this book gets so many 5 star reviews. The author is fairly simplistic in the language used and the structure of the book is less chapters than vignettes. Yes, it is written it a conversational tone, but its meandering storyline is just not that compelling. I am a mature reader, however, and I think that this author's tone is just a bit too immature for my taste. She comes across as a whiney little girl who can't disengage from her mommy. This book's litany of abuse dished out by the mother becomes ludicrous when all that is necessary is alleviate the abuse is to STOP dealing with the mother! It highlights the immaturity of the main character and her inability to be a grown up.

I'd also like to add that the book is RIFE with misuse of words, commas, everywhere, and-inappropriately-hyphenated-words. The grammar and copyediting is poor.

For its simplistic language, poor grammar and meandering "story", I give this book 3 stars. It is barely engaging enough to be a summer read. Really, it's more of an exercise of schadenfreude.
Clever use of similes and metaphors which added humor to a provocative journey that fluctuated between highs of blissful happiness and depths of struggle and determination, a determination to accept only the road traveled and ultimately experienced, no matter the external obstacles, conflict, and difficulties faced.
What a good read! I literally couldn't put it down, I fell asleep with it in my hands.
I want to say it's sweet & fun because it is but, it is also sad & heartbreaking. Sometimes you want to hug Lex & other times you want to shake her, but more than anything you want to be friends with her. I hope there are more books to come from this author!!
